Vicky Holt is the Principal Nursing Officer at Bwindi Community Hospital, although she complains
that she spends most of her time doing administration or public relations. She leads a team of twenty five Ugandan nurses and midwives who work in the hospital and the community. In her ‘real’ life she was a nurse in the North East of England with experience of adult medicine, accident and emergency and general practice. Before coming to Uganda she ran nursing in a primary care service for substance misuse. She says “dealing with the drug users in Middlesbrough was much, much easier than working in Bwindi”. |
