altPaul Williams was a Medical Superintendent at Bwindi Community Hospital, and worked full time in the hospital from early 2006 to June 2010. He began the HIV/AIDS service in the area and initially ran community and maternity services at the hospital before becoming the leader of the organisation in August 2007.

He trained as a doctor in Newcastle upon Tyne and has a Masters in Public Health as well as training in tropical medicine. Before moving to Uganda he was a GP and began a primary care service for refugees living in the United Kingdom. He has also worked as a medicolegal expert in the documentation of torture and an honorary lecturer at the University of Durham.

He is a keen cyclist. His partner, Vicky, led nursing at the Bwindi Community Hospital. Both of them volunteered their time to work in Africa.
